As an international board-certified lactation consultant, my job is to assess mothers and their babies in regards to feeding difficulties. This assessment involves taking a history, doing a hands-on assessment with baby to observe for any oral ties/malformations/inefficiencies, and a hands on assessment with you in order to see what condition your breasts and nipples are in, and to see what stage of milk production you are in. I observe a feeding during my visit, and I make suggestions for improvements and a plan with you as to how to move forward. It is my job to hear you, understand your goals, and help you in that direction.
